SUMMARY:Intro to Metal Class
DESCRIPTION:Metal clay is amazing – it starts as clay\, but fires into pure silver. You can form it with simple tools\, even set stones in it\, and fire it with a butane-cooking torch or small kiln. When fired\, the clay-like binders burn off as the pure silver molecules fuse together.\n \nThis class is designed for both beginning students and those seeking to refresh skills and learn new ones. During this in-depth orientation to Metal Clay\, students will create two pendants. The initial project will be a simple silver two-sided project\, chosen to teach thickness\, roll out\, texture\, appliqué\, and carving techniques. It will be fired with a butane torch.\n \nBeyond the basic skills required for this project\, more advanced techniques\, will be taught\, including: sculptural design and construction\, basic stone setting\, bail design and structure\, drying\, firing with torch and kiln\, final finishing and polishing\, repairing both in the green-ware phase and after firing. \nIf you’d like to be in this class\, please send me an email and I’ll send you an e-invoice and reserve a place in the class for you.  Address & directions to follow.

SUMMARY:Ring Fabrication
DESCRIPTION:Metal Clay II:  Ring Fabrication \nTessier Jewelry Home Studio \nWindsor\, California \nFebruary 8\, 2020 \n10am-4pm \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nCost: $210.00 \nMake pure silver rings with basic tools by forming metal clay and firing it in a kiln or with a\ntorch. With a simple home set up\, you can make stacking rings\, wide band rings\, textured\nrings and rings with stones set in place.  \nThis great workshop with Thomas Tessier will focus on metal clay fabrication and sizing\ntechniques for rings. Learn how to accommodate shrinkage\, prepare tools\, add textures and\ndesign and apply decorative elements. Tom will also review firing and polishing methods. \nProjects include two rings. The first design will be a wide band ring topped with decorative\ncenter piece. The second a narrow band ring enhanced with a 4 mm faceted stone. \nTechniques taught:\n• Measuring ring size\n• Adjusting ring size to accommodate shrinkage of metal clay\n• Making wide and narrow band rings\n• Creating surface textures\n• Designing and fabricating the ring’s focal center\n• Adding decorative elements\n• Setting and firing in place stones\n• Sanding and smoothing rings\n• Firing methods for rings\n• Polishing and finishing rings \nNotes: \nPrerequisite:  Previous experience working with metal class.  For example\, an introductory class. \nAll materials and use of tools included with the class. \nBring a bag lunch.  There will not be time to leave for lunch. \nRegistration: \nTo register for this class\, please send me an email with your contact information (tom@tessierjewelry.com).  I will send you an e-invoice which you can pay on-line.  The class will be restricted to the first five students who sign up.  You may cancel up to 24 hours before the class starts for a full refund.  Within 24 hours\, shop credit only\, which can be applied to another class or used to purchase tools/clay.

SUMMARY:A Touch of Gold
DESCRIPTION:Gold and jewelry have gone together since the beginning of time.  The downside of using gold clay is the cost. The retail cost of gold metal clay is currently $280 for 3g\, or $93.33 per gram and silver clay is $2.60 per gram. \nA good compromise is the application of small amounts of gold on silver.  This can be done in several ways. The purpose of this class is to discuss several of the ways of adding a decorative gold veneer to silver.  The following methods will be taught in this class: \n\nKeum Boo – the Korean method of fusing gold foil to silver with heat & pressure.\nGold Paste – coating the silver with a small amount of gold paste and firing it.\nGold Plating – the method of electroplating the silver with a gold plating system.\n\nStudents will make three small pendants on the first day of class and fire them.  On day two\, gold will be applied to the pieces using the three methods listed above.  Finally the pieces will be burnished and a jump ring will added to each piece.

SUMMARY:Sterling Silver Bracelets
DESCRIPTION:The strength of sterling silver is now part of the Metal Clay family. One of the inherent assets of sterling silver clay as compared to fine silver clay is its post firing strength. Therefore\, it is the perfect choice for jewelry that requires forming and shaping after firing: such as cuff bracelets and split rings. \nIn this class students will learn:\n• all about sterling silver clay\n• how to size cuffs and rings to account for the shrinkage of the clay\n• how to shape and texture each project\n• proper firing schedule\n• forging and shaping pieces after firing \nThe students will make one sterling silver bracelet in class\,  decorated with appliqué and a unique stone setting. \nPrerequisite:  \nPrior experience with metal clay\, like the successful completion of an introduction to metal clay class. \nIf interested in taking the class\, please email me and I’ll add you to the class and send you an e-invoice.  Class limited to 5 students. \n
